When looking for the perfect winter vacation, the Caribbean is the perfect spot. With more than 700 islands to choose from, you’ll always have a great variety for every desire. The best time to visit is from December to April. You can go year round and always find great weather. Cruising is also something to consider if you want to include a few islands during your vacation. Here are a few of my faves.
Antigua – This island claims to have 365 beaches. Antigua offers a great variety of resorts and hotels. A favorite tour is the Circumnavigation cruise on a catamaran that circles the island in a day.
Aruba – A tiny dutch island just off the coast of Venezuela. Dry sunny weather, long sandy beaches and gentle surf make this island very appealing.
Bahamas – This archipelago consists of 700 islands and cays, some inhabited and some not. The most northern Grand Bahama and Paradise Island with the giant Atlantis Resort are the most well known. Scuba diving and snorkelling are a big draw here.
Barbados – Offering a variety of Beach resorts ranging from humble to grand, this island is an interesting pick. Touring this island is easy, either on your own or by hiring a local driver. Relax on the beach, scuba dive, great restaurants..so much to offer
Cuba – This island is easily accessible from most major Canadian cities. Varadero offers a 20 km beach with all inclusive resorts. Other areas to consider are Havana, Holguin, Cayo Santa Maria, Cayo Coco..just to mention a few.
Dominican Republic – Known for its pristine beaches, all-inclusive resorts and golfing, the Dominican is a popular getaway to escape the cold.
Jamaica – One of my all time favorites, Jamaica has something for everyone. Negril offers the 7 mile Beach for those who like the long walks in the sand. There are all inclusive resorts all over the island, as well as a variety of smaller hotels and house rentals.
Turks & Caicos – A lot of little islands, with pristine beaches, and beautiful turquoise waters makes for a perfect vacation.
